hi,

I clicked on the tokiomarine link given by RaeM (many thanks for that) because I remembered some Japanese named company offering a special mm2h rate - very, very low. However I can't find the appropriate post - yet.

What was interesting about the tokiomarine site was the following :

Quote
We wish to advise that with effect from 1st February 2010, a premium loading of 40% of our brochure rate will be applied to any proposal and renewal for Medic Partner Insurance if the address/place of residence of the proposer/policy holder is situated within the states of Penang and Kedah.

Wow, a 40% loading.

When we used Tokiomarine it was via our agent of course, in Penang but as we were still not living there we used or overseas address ? as I mentioned in the previous entry its only a 1 year policy, so plenty of time once all the other stuff is settled & you are "in" so to speak you have time to check others. We may have paid more but with all the transition moving, possible MM2H car & everything thing else there has to be a price on hassle free, we never drove to KL or anything just sign here a few forms go for a medical, they collect & do everthing, we are by no means rich or even close, but what price to relax with no hassle after all the intent to is retire.

If you are in KL I can introduce you to the agent I use.
I've used him for a few years and he is pretty efficient. He answers email, and delivers papers to your office / home within 24 to 48 hours. He mostly work with MAA, but has contacts who can quote other providers.

PM or email me to get his contact as I don't think he'd like his private email on a forum.

hi,

RaeM - I agree with you about limiting the hassle. When I sold-up in Portugal in 2008 I did the marketing myself as the agents couldn't get a viewing let alone a buyer, plus the nominal selling legal side as DIY. It was tempting to self-arrange the transit of goods to Singapore, and I received some good advice via this forum, but with 2 items as DIY it was a stretch for anything else.

I had to decide what I could handle, and what needed to be off-loaded.

Just to report my experiences with the medical and Health Insurance.

Visited a local clinic for the medical report. Blood pressure and stethoscope tests only. Doctor wasn't too pleased that I had filled in the first 2 sections of the form myself, even after I pointed out to him that that was how it is supposed to be done. He did sign eventually, and RMB50 paid

The Insurance was definately a hit and miss affair. I received some really weird quotes via email, (just figures, no details) and when I asked for details of the coverage, I never heard any more from some of them.
Also, when I made it clear I wanted a basic coverage, interest was lost. I also received details of coverage that I wasn't qualified for. ie  Had to be Malaysian. Had to be under 50 Had to be in employment etc. despite making my age, and other details plain at the start.

Anyway, I have now settled on Kurnia Mediguard Value Plan. Not the cheapest, but seems to be very fair value for a basic package.
They were very pleasant, and efficient to deal with. I submitted the App. Form, and after 1 week had an offer with expected exclusions.

It was ready to collect when they said it would be, at the agreed tariff, and I paid the money and left. Great way of doing business.

Hope this is of some help to future applicants, and many thanks to all here for your help and advice.

Regards

ken

My experience also..... was told by one agent that customers here never really read the policy, and rely 100% on the insurance agent for advice regarding the policy. Most were amazed that I would want to even read the policy before paying, and they had difficulties in providing me with a policy wording.  One actually gave me a copy of a policy (with full personal details) of a client he had signed recently!!!!

Amazing stuff this insurance industry here, and quite an eye opener.  Should also add that these practices were also common when we were also seeking business insurance (fire/accident/public & product liability etc.).

In the end, as we only need to rely on insurance when the manure hits the fan (and then you REALLY need service and clear policy wording), went offshore with our insurance needs.

When looking for health insurance as a requirement for MM2H, the only one I found was Prudential and at a crazy price for dreadful cover. Instead I wrote to 2 other companies, both of whom wrote back saying as we were over 60 years old they couldn't help us. I took those replies to immigration and without a blink we were exempted from that requirement.
We keep out medical insurance in Australia going and when I inform them that we will be overseas, the clock stops running till we return. This not only makes it cost effective, but would be cheaper to medivac back to Australia in an emergency and with full coverage than pay ridiculous prices here for a super basic one off cover.

To be honest, if I could have found a way of getting refused, I would have done. Problem is this only seems to work if you are over 60, and at 59, I am expected to be able to get coverage. I was tempted to try and get a refusal letter, but that would have negated the health declaration for MM2H. Thought it better to be prudent, and get the best coverage I could, until I a over 60.

This morning, I was advised that my application for health insurance was approved.

It has taken several weeks as I turned 60 in January.

Happy to provide info re Insurance Agent  I used.

I am also in the process of 'suspending' my private health cover in Australia.

I read that MBF has been taken over  or merged with  BUPA  - as I am with MBF in Oz, I called them about worldwide health cover but it seems, they are 2 different 'products' (MBF and BUPA)  and BUPA is by no means cheap.

Cheers

Mik

Kurnia have changed their tune then.  I went to one Kurnia agent (recommended by someone on this forum), earlier this year, and he said he couldn't do cover for MM2H application, only when I was living in Malaysia <duh>  so I went elsewhere (Allianz).

I had the same problem with Kurnia Agents. But when I went to them direct, it was totally different.

Help!

We are travelling to KL from the UK tomorrow with the intention  of completing the MM2H formalities.

We thought that we had everything in order but have just learned that the broker cannot organise medical cover in time  - unless we pay  a phenomenal monthly premium.

I am emailing all the medical companies referred to in the forum in the hope that will be able to assist but dies anyone know of an insurer in KL who will be able to assist and so so quickly please?
We need to move quickly as we only have 2 weeks in Malaysia and our conditional approval runs out mid September in any case.

Also - a bit of a 'numpty' question - but are the premiums in RM or USD (some vary) and are the figures monthly or annual. I think I know the answer but confirmation would be welcome.

All suggestions welcome and my thanks in advance

Jacx

If someone is travelling I suggest getting travel medical insurance as the MM2H accepts those. At least they accepted my world-wide travel insurance from Canada, when I applied in January this year.

We have travel insurance - always carry an  annual policy  - but when I contacted MM2H enquiring if we could use that no response.

The annoying thing is that I started making enquiries weeks ago re medical cover so as to avoid this problem!

I also contacted Joy-stay and it seems Yvonne may have the solution.
