Wonder on what standards of measurement have they used to base their determinations. Call me bias but Penang should have come first, followed by KL, Singapore or Hong Kong, Macau, Taipei, etc, etc.  ;)

The criteria should include political stability, economy, employment, social security, air quality, infrastructure, environment, housing etc.

I wonder if BKK should be up there now given recent events?

Cheers

The survey is from end of March, I don't think Bangkok is even on the list anymore.

Ha Ha, Not surprised

All you need now is

The King to die
Taskin Back
Crown prince crowned
and then watch all hell break loose

Cheers

hi,

There's loads of surveys. Usually Vancouver comes out top from a World survey. I worked with a guy from Vancouver and he always said it was the world's best city for living in, so there you are. But, like me, he lived in Singapore.

I lived in Singapore for 12 years ++. I didn't like it much, folks there almost look as if they would like to smile but they need to break wind first. It's a funny Singaporean look. Or maybe they're just looking at me, but I don't get it anywhere else.

Singapore, same same everywhere. I needed to escape via JB every 2 or 3 months just to keep sane. Lee Kuan Yew likes Singapore but he once said that JB was the pits. The folks in JB gave him grief about this and said that it wasn't the pits. As Singapore is the top Asian city and JB isn't even on the list I guess he was right, right?

I haven't been to Kobe, Taipei, Shenzen, Guangzhou, Tianjin, or Hanoi. Out of the other 15, I'd place Chiang Mai first if it was on the list. I think that these surveys usually highlight the places to avoid, or to limit the stay to a day or so.

I had a 1-day stay in Bandar Seri Begawan (listed 13th). The Sultan there built a museum to house Churchill memorabilia. The Sultan then decide to evict Churchill and honour himself - display after display after display, after . . . Our visit to this museum was the highlight of an otherwise totally dismal 1/2 day trip around the non-existent sights of BSB.

Some 20 years later and I can still recall the endless photos of the Sultan plus the royal regalia which must have come from a Woolworth's Xmas display. It was the closest that I ever got to calling the Samaritans. I remember returning to the hotel and wiping-out all the Coke in the mini bar.
