Hi nks900 (and anyone else who can help)!

My wife an I, both over 60, are planning our trip to KL to collect our MM2H visas. We don't really want health insurance, but am not sure how to go about getting a Rejection Letter. You write:

Quote
Bought (AIA) medical insurance for myself, got the medical form rubber-stamped and signed whilst undergoing the "medical" at the clinic.  Got rejection letter for hubby from AIA as they won't insure over 60s.

We would be grateful for any advice you may have on where we go, with what papers, and what do we say, to get a Rejection Letter? Which AIA office and clinic did you go to? We don't have much time on our first trip to KL, so anything that saves us time would be much appreciated.

Dear Azka:

First of all Congratulations for getting the Approval Letter for both of you. In regard of the Health Insurance papers/documents, I think you can contact Mr. Collin Pereira, he probably can help you.
 Collin.pereira@allianz.com.my
Tel. 04-226-6055
Fax 04-227-7055

In regard of the Health Clinic that is located across from the PWTC building, you have to ask nks900,
he can precisely tell you where the Clinic is located.

Good Luck and Selamat Datang!
Ben

There is some really useful information on health insurance here, especially the "Waiver for Medical Insurance" thread started by Scott. In most cases, however, the question adressed is what to do if you don't get health insurance? For a variety of reasons, however, some of us would much rather not even try to get health insurance, if it would be possible to get a MM2H visa without it.

The position apparently is:

Quote
Medical insurance:  medical insurance for Malaysia is a condition of the MM2H endorsement for applicants aged below 60.  An exemption applies to those aged 60 and above who are not able to purchase a medical insurance policy for Malaysia due to age.  However, not many insurance companies in Malaysia are willing to insure clients who are above 60 years old age.  As such if you are able to produce a letter from an insurance company that they are unable to insure you due to age factor, you need not purchase a medical insurance policy for your stay in Malaysia. [Emhasis added.]

In contrast to the text highlighted above, several posts at this Forum suggest that a number of insurance companies are willing to insure clients above 60. I wonder if someone with knowledge and experience could clarify (1) whether insurance companies do or do not insure clients over 60; and (2) offer advice to a complete novice at this on how to go about getting a rejection letter (do you go to the HQ of an insurance company, to agents--how do you find them, and what do you say--do you simply ask for a rejection letter, etc.)? I have visions of going door to door for several days in this quest; is there a way to avoid this?

Please forgive me if this addresses too narow an interest, and accept my thanks in anticipation for any and all advice and guidance that might be offered.

hi,

The door-to-door route is a probability. Insurance companies don't want to advertise their limits.

There are several agents in the larger town close to me. They all sell a variety of policies. You have to go around and find one that will get you a rejection letter. I did something similar. Locate an office tied to a particular company.

Try Kurnia. They do not have health insurance for the over 60's. I asked. Make an application to them for insurance. There's a pro forma rejection letter. Getting it is the hassle.

I'd try the HQ before the agents but I have no experience of this it just seems a good idea.

I hope other members have some other information, experience of this issue, and will post.

Hi Scott

I emailed Kurnia and in their reply, they said:
Quote
Maximum enrolment age for MediGuard Value is 65 years old next birthday. Premium will be charged based on the age on next birthday and plan type. Loading might be imposed based on the applicant's height and weight or medical condition.
Please visit the following link for product's features, benefits, exclusion, special provision and conditions and premium table:
http://malaysia.kurnia.com/Insurance/MediGuardValue/Default.aspx

This is also what the MediGuard page (url above) says:
Quote
Enrolment age from 19 years old up to 65 years old. Renewal is up to age 65 at the option of the Policyholder, thereafter at the discretion of the Company up to 70 and provided that you are enrolled before 61 years old.

So it isn't clear if the cut-off age is 60 or 65.

hi,

Like many things in Malaysia, and elsewhere, there's sometimes a difference in interpretation between starting point and finish line.

I was told by one Kurnia insurance agent that before the 61st birthday was the limit. The Kurnia site seems to indicate otherwise.

However, I have a Kurnia rejection letter and I was 61 when I got it. So it is possible, if it is needed.

Hi Azka,  we went through Allianz (Collin Pereira) but firstly - he is based in Penang not KL.  I think you are going to KL?  Also, not sure how much "over 60" you are.  My other half is over 60 and we got medical insurance through Allianz i.e. NOT a rejection letter.

There's a whole section on this forum on medical insurance and procedures.  You might want to have a browse through.

Azka,
To get a rejection letter, you can do it by email.
Simply send an email to CMIcare@chartisinsurance.com stating you are expatriates approved for MM2H, and your ages are whatever they are and that you require medical/health insurance.
You will receive a very quick email reply that will tell you that because you are both aged over 60 years and are over the entry age limit.
Quote: " As your spouse and your good self have exceeded the entry age limit, we regret to inform you that we are unable to accommodate your request".
If that is not a rejection letter, then I don't know what is, and you don't have to move from your computer to get it.
On the other hand if you do want insurance, www.allianz.com.my has all the info and will insure you up to age 69 on your next Birthday.
Cheers & Beers,
JAYDEE

hi,

I've moved the insurance related posts from "Finally Approved" and merged them all here as this topic seems more relevant.

Thanks,

Here's what happened:

First reply:
Quote
Thank for contacting Chartis Malaysia.

We acknowledge receipt of your email below with regards to health insurance plan. Please assist to furnish us with your contact details in order to assist your good self further.

We attached our Safe & Smart plan benefit sheet for your perusal.

Thank you and regards,

The Safe & Smart plan benefit sheet they sent does say that: "You or your spouse must be between the ages of 18 years to 61 years to qualify for cover." So, as they had asked, I reverted to them by sending them our home country contacts, putting our ages in brackets after our names (hint!), and got the following reply:
Quote

hi,

It's why brick walls were invented. The ones with the sign saying "hit your head here."    8-)

Do you know that insurance agents have the same IQ range as politicians. Frightening, isn't it.

Hang in there.

lol  ~44~ (re: brick walls).

@ Sananton and Papaya: Thank you for your suggestions. Even though I am still hopeful that we will manage to get a rejection letter, by way of contingency planning I have followed your advice and have emailed Collin Pereira in Penang, requesting a quote--sigh!

Papaya: As DIY applicants (ages 64 and 62) we have to go to KL to pick up a visa, after which we hope to look at Penang as a potential place to stay. And, yes, the medical insurance board (especially the companies and costs thread) on this forum have been the source of most of my education on this subject.

Sananton: With regard to the Health Clinic (located across from the PWTC building), I've been recommended a better option, especially for DIY applicants like myself: Klinik Salma, next to the Immigration Unit of MM2H Centre, on Level 6 of PWTC, where we intend to go. IMO, the existence of this clinic needs to be more widely known.

Regards.

Hello All,

Well, it seems that these insurance companies make it up as they go along.
Last Monday (16/5/2010), as I was receiving no response from this Collin Perriera person of Allianz, I went in to the office at Menara BHL , in Penang and filled in the appropriate form in front of a nice young lady, who said she would forward it to the underwriters in KL and get back to me.
Result by email this morning.
"We wish to inform that your application for Health Insurance has been declined by our underwriter.
We regret for any inconvenience caused.
Thanks & Regards."

Yet another rejection. I don't understand this one as they do say up to age 69, but no point in fighting it. I am 66 years of age and have diabetes 2, but my Australian Doctor has taken me off all my medication (end March) which I have been on for 10 years.
Obviously relaxing in Penang without stress is the cure.
Cheers & Beers,
JAYDEE

and I received the following just now :

Quote

Is this a rejection letter?
