Been to Langkawi recently? Recommend a place to stay?

Can anyone recommend a good, clean hotel/resort to stay in Langkawi that is not extortionate (Datai/Sheraton…)? I have scanned Trip Advisor where Casa Del Mar seems to be highly recommended. However, I would welcome a recommendation from the forum members who have been there recently.

We stayed at a time share Perdana Beach Resort, but the real action seems to be along Jalan Pantai Chenang. Its wall to wall places to stay and next time we intend just turning up and "shopping" for a place. All a bit like Phuket was 30 years ago when it was still a nice place to go!!

Get off the beaten track a bit and Kampung Bawah has a good market and well priced food. Some stalls 5 curry puffs or 10 pisang goring for a dollar. Outside the ferry terminal eastern end you can hire older cars for RM50 a day and a drive up Gunung Raya is a must.

I paid only a little bit more than that for a whole week in a fairly new 2 bedroom apartment in Penang
