Based on highly proficient advice (& emails) from our personal travel consultant (Cupert), final itinerary is as follows:

Penang: 7 days
Ipoh: 2 days
Genting: 1 day
Kuantan: 2 days
Malacca: 2 days

Now we are just awaiting the consultancy account !!

Cheers,

James

Hi James,

Since the purpose of your coming trip is to find which retirement place suits you most, I find 7 days in Penang to be a bit too long which results in your later leg of trip to KL, Ipoh & Kuantan being too hectic.  You will be on the wheel every two days and I guess it will be very tiring.  Do consider spread some of your days in Penang to Ipoh and Kuantan as 2 days in each of those places might be too short to have a decent look around.

Just my humble opinion.

Cheers!

Thanks Costa - advice appreciated & shall have final look at it.

On face of it, its coming down to Penang possibly followed by Malacca -  but important to maintain an open mind.

Cheers,

James

.'verbal diarrhoea'...I did not even think of that until your own admittance that you suffer from this.

Highly inappropriate comment although I would defer to Scott's better judgement on this !!

hi,

Highly inappropriate comment although I would defer to Scott's better judgement on this !!

Better judgement . . . crickey.   ~48~

Well, I think that when members get personal any forum becomes a tit-for-tat. No-one wins and the forum loses. I now remove such posts, as you can see. I could "blabberise" them and would like to try this out but I've no time today so this is the best I can do.

I could put them all on a "Ding-Dong" thread in Chit-Chat. Or we could just keep them removed and watch the professional name-callers do the same thing on TV -  in the UK, it's currently Labour, Conservative and Lib-Dem. Elsewhere it's another group.

Once a post is removed for flaming there's often a follow-up post, or PM, talking about "freedom of speech" or in Andy Davison's case "freedom of democracy." I still don't know who or what he wanted to vote for.    :-\

This is primarily an information site. Members can chit-chat on the Chit-Chat Board. But there needs to be a lot of give & take on a forum so as a rule of thumb if chit-chat starts to break up meaningful threads it will be removed elsewhere. After all, an informative post can always have a PS or a BTW under the signature. As usual, the best advice is to start a new topic. I can always split topics.

Having written this another point is that if there's no chit-chat there's few posts. And if all posts are all information then the forum becomes dry and a bit dull. I guess it's a matter of balance. Extra posts to balance things out are always welcome.

All members can use the "ignore" selection to avoid other members. Go to your Profile, go to Modify Profile, go to Edit Buddies/Ignore List, click on Add to Ignore List, select name and ignore away.  :P   As this is an open discussion forum there doesn't seem to be much point in ignoring others - live & let live seems better.

Only polls started by Admin are allowed. Members may request a poll but they are not able to initiate them.

I think that reacting is easy, responding is hard, and choosing not to respond is even harder. Being polite, and relevant, and succinct on a forum isn't easy. It's a challenge for me, and something worthwhile to try just for the sake of it. I also try to get perfect spelling, nice and sometimes novel punctuation, and a designed layout.

So, the Topic is "Killing a Week in Malaysia - Easy Rider"

Hi James

How about checking out Pangkor Island if you are giving Taiping a miss? If you like fishing, sun, sand and surf, that is the best place to be, at least from memory.  ^-^

What they said about Pangkor Island Beach Resort:

"Pangkor Island Beach Resort located on an unspoilt tropical island of Pangkor , on the west of Peninsular Malaysia, is surrounded by 73 acres of lush tropical Jungle, exotic land and marine life. On this private enclave, it offers 1.2 kilometres of white sandy beach with inviting emerald green sea."

and this about Pangkor island:

Pulau Pangkor is an island off the coast of Perak in north-west peninsular Malaysia, reached by ferry from Lumut (a small coastal town that links to Ipoh, or from Sitiawan). It has a land area of only 8 square kilometers, and a population of approximately 25,000 islanders. It is heavily promoted as a low-key tourist destination by the Malaysian government, but fishing and fish products remain major industries.

Historically, Pangkor was a refuge for local fishermen, merchants and pirates. In the 17th century, the Dutch built a fort in an effort to control the Perak tin trade. In 1874, it was the location of a historic treaty between the British government and a contender for the Perak throne (The Pangkor Treaty), which began the British colonial domination of the Malay Peninsula.

Pangkor is famous for its fine beaches and a mix of low budget to 5 star accommodations. Teluk Nipah and Coral Bay on the north west of the island is extremely popular with travellers from Europe. The quality of sand in the Pasir Bogak Beach is far superior to that elsewhere on the island. The sand is golden brown, quite similar to most leading prime beaches. There are a few resorts in Teluk Nipah or Nipah Bay.

You may even get to see one or two of my all time favourite typical Malay homes...........An atap house

Sounds great but might be a little rushed/off course for 1 night.

Frasers Hill appears interesting as stop over point on route to Kuantan.

Thanks,

James
