Sending credit card details via email
« on: April 25, 2010, 08:20:55 AM »
Hi

I want to book a hotel accommodation for daughter in Paddington, London and was asked to provide credit card details via email.  :o I am not comfortable about doing this.  :-\ Have you done it and is it ok to do this in split emails?

Hi
use the phone instead.
Providing credit card details over the net other than through a secure site is most likely  a breach of your credit card terms and conditions. This means you may not be covered if the email is used to "out" your credit card details.
Cheers :)

I think I prefer to book elsewhere using the secure site. Too risky either way.  :-[

Yeah, Cupert. Never send your card details via emails. But this is quite common with places like in Laos. I have make a couple of bookings via email, but only the card number. I prefer if they give me their account details and do a deposit via international fund transfer. More secure, also has a transaction reference number.

Cupert,

If you are looking for accommodation anywhere in the World with a secure site and plenty of options, you won't get better than www.expedia.com.
I have been using Expedia for at least seven years.  Never have I had any issues, only great service.

"I have make a couple of bookings via email, but only the card number. "

What do you mean, Victor? How do I do that?

Jaydee, I can only reserve a room with them by providing credit card details. They don't use any online service provider such as expedia. I mean we are talking about London! Didn't know that there are still people running business without providing secure facilities for reservation.  >:(

Cupert - well, usually they would want more than the card number. Like the 3 digit code at the bank of your card (if Visa), expiry date, full name, billing address. I don't give the 3 digit code. Even if I have to sign, I don't give my real signature on my card. I think for your own peace of mind, call them and give the details over the phone.

Cupert,

What is the problem ? www.expedia.com.au will give you what you need. Hotels, Flights, Car Rental, ALL with a Secure Site for your Credit Card Details. You just need to get on their site and see what it can do for you. There you are, I've also given you the Australian site. Expedia doesn't care where you want to book, London is no big deal for Expedia.
Two Stars to Five Stars, Expedia can do it and the costs are very competitive. They HAVE to be to stay alive in this World.
You've also been talking about the 2 star Myhotel in KL, and the rate of RM 98 is also shown on another Secure booking site called www.wotif.com. So, if you have a problem with Expedia, GO TO www.wotif.com and save yourself a whole lot of grief.
Cheers & Beers,
JAYDEE

Hi Jaydee

This is the hotel I am having trouble with

http://www.stdavidshotels.com/faq.htm#1Q: How can I make a reservation?

A: By telephone or by email (http://www.stdavidshotels.com/enquiries.htm). We do not operate with an online reservation system to provide all our customers with a personal service. Top

Cupert,
You have choices.
(1) send your Credit card details via FAX. No problem with this method as it is going direct to their fax no. After all, they are only asking for the credit card no. & expiry date. Give it to them.
(2) There are about 30 hotels in the direct vicinity of Paddington Underground station, so St. Davids is not your only choice.
Go to www.wotif.com , click on Paddington area, click on the google map, zoom into the area and whammo there are your options to book as you please on the web. All the facilities of each hotel are listed along with pricing up to 3 months in advance.
(3) Maybe St. Davids isn't your best choice, you should check out St. Davids on www.tripadvisor.com . Some people say it is not so good.
Cheers & Beers,
JAYDEE
