Stargazing
« on: March 29, 2010, 08:35:39 PM »
hi,

Something to do that's easy, needs little equipment, can be done from a chair with a glass in hand, and is intellectually (is there life out there?) stimulating : stargazing.

For the next couple of months those here in Malaysia can have a look at the night sky and locate Mars. It's a bright orange star next to the moon and opposite where the sun is, if you could see the sun that is. And you can see Mars with the eye, no need for a telescope.

Interesting Scott...glass in hand stargazing...my dream, my life!

I was in Bali last year during Nyepi, the day of silence, when everything closes including roads/airports.... everything. No lights and only animal noise.

I walked outside our villa and cannot simply describe the awe and wonder I felt. I looked up and saw stars I've never ever seen..there were so many, uncountable, heavenly lights.

I wished that I knew more about the heavens....witnessing that puts us in our place, and me in mine...we are so insignificant.

I went back to the room, in the dark, and finished my wine! ~8~

Next day the hawkers were on the streets, the motor bikes whizzed around.....and life went on.

But thanks Scott, for the reminder.

David

Hi Scott

Thanks for reminding me about something that I haven't done for a long, long time and that is to do some stargazing.  :-[

So caught up with worries, etc that here is something that nature provides and it is free too!

Over here we have the southern cross star system: http://www.southernskies.com.au/astronomy/cross.htm

Perhaps it is time to take the old blanket, go lie in the garden and do some stargazing.  :)
