That sounds like a great idea, Shirley.  I have to confess that I sometimes have a Senior Moment and forget where some forum members are located.  The ones I have met, I know where they are  ;)  I don't suppose Scott would want to add a location tab under member's names (optional of course) - Scott, can lah?

For me, will have to be later in the year as we haven't moved yet and will need to get wheels.  See make-shift Location Tab to the left  :)

Hi Shirley, Seems like your hubby and you are enjoying life as MM2H in Ipoh very much. Been reading your older threads since you folks planned the MM2H transition. My hometown is Manjung but have fond memories of Ipoh. Wifey from Hong Kong loves the food in Ipoh. We just got our MM2H approved last week. Havent decide if we gonna stay in Ipoh, Manjung, KL or Penang, but someday, it would be awesome if we can meet you. Wifey would be thrill to meet fellow MM2Her's and friends. It would be nice to have MM2H friends all over for tips on where to stay, eat and play. Scott's done a great job here to help connect everyone. Cheers!

Hi Bachatakahuna,

Hello there, Congratulations on your MM2H approval. Well, so far so good for me in Ipoh. I am original from Taiping. My hubby is from India (chinese).
You can choose where ever you like to live, but Ipoh is good place for retirees. Quiet and not expenisve livings.Keep in contact and we will meet soon.

Cheers,
Shirley

.......nice to know that both of you are happy with Ipoh enjoying the serenity, food and laid back Ipoh lifestyle. We met a MM2H couple from OZ who's also residing in Ipoh, renting at the Meru Resort when we were in Las Vegas, and they seemed to be pretty happy and contented with Ipoh as well. Now that's another thumbs up for Ipoh as an MM2H destination.  :) It makes me salivate everytime I think of the variety of intestines satay~44~ served at one of the chinese coffee shops in Ipoh. There's such a long line of people waiting  O0 We will check out Ipoh and will be touch. Hmm isnt Taiping another nice place to retire? Havent been to Taiping for ages but had fond memories of the zoo, beautiful Lake Garden, and memorable hikes up to Maxwell Hill. The view from above was breathtaking. Cheers!

Hi Bachatakahuna,

Agreed with you, Taiping is a beautiful town especially the taiping lake garden.Taiping is now developing a lot, 2 new 4 stars hotels are built . 1 is nearby the lake garden called Fleminton and the other one is in Kamunting called SSL Traders hotel.

I use to visit Taiping quite often and like to have the hawker foods there...yummmy!

Hi Shirley,

Is Taiping a preferable "sleep over" point than Ipoh & is there some nice hotel there you can suggest.

Many thanks,

James

hi, Bachatakahuna,

We just got our MM2H approved last week.

Congratulations, that's good news.

The nice thing about being southwards and west of Ipoh is that it's easy to get to a beach. However, Ipoh and Taiping have easy access to the north-south highway for trips up to Penang or down to KL. Being in SW Perak it takes me 1 hour ++ to get to Gopeng or Bidor.

Is Taiping a preferable "sleep over" point than Ipoh & is there some nice hotel there you can suggest.

Hi, James, I'm not Shirley but I've been to both places several times and I'd go for the larger Ipoh simply on the basis that it's much bigger and has more choice for hotels. And Ipoh and Taiping aren't so far away from each other that driving is a problem.

Over to you Shirley.

Taiping is a very nice place.   It takes about an hour drive to reach there from Penang and so to Ipoh from there.

Hi James,

Well, I haven't over night in hotels in  Taiping before . But I went to Hotel Fleminton last month to have dinner there, the hotel is quite okay to me and it is not expensive.
For Ipoh, I stayed in Hotel Heritage and Casuarina, I prefered Casuarina more.the rooms are bigger and cleaner. As Scott mentioned, if you drive north or south;Ipoh or Taiping  both are  good "stop over".

Cheers,
Shirley
