Re: Humidity issues - and Penang changes

First time in 20 years?  I hope you will not be another one moaning about changes seen in Penang. :) :)  So, my advice would be "Be open and prepared of what you will see in Penang" so that you won't be disappointed with what Penang is now as compared to what it was 20 years ago.  It depends on how you see it.

Regards,
costa

 ~14~ ~14~ ~14~  Oh well spoken, Costa.

All places develop over the years.  I cannot think of one big town or city that looks the same now as it did 20 or 30 years ago.  And to all those who reminisce to the good ol' days, tell me this, would you really prefer the following:

1.  Penang without an extensive range of good clinics and hospitals (for your senior years).
2.  Penang without the range of restaurants, eateries - not just the basic tin huts of days gone by.
3.  Penang without the range of banks, supermarkets, markets, stores.
4.  Penang without a bridge to the mainland.
5.  Expensive long flights to Penang where you have to change planes several times.
6.  Life without computers and the internet and forums  ;)
7.  Life without mobile phones, i-pods, i-phones, you name it.....
8.  Malaysia without MM2H

I like Penang the way it is.

hi,

I first visited Penang in 1979. I stayed in a 4 or 5 storey hotel at the top of Chulia Street (or thereabouts). The hotel was flash and newish.

I was a bright cheerful lad having a wonderful holiday in the "Pearl of the Orient." There was more shine on my sweaty face than on the pearl but, hey, as a history fanatic the excitement of being in the footsteps of Sir Francis Light was enough illumination for me.

Last year I drove up Chulia Street (or thereabouts) and saw the very same hotel. Boarded-up top floor windows, needing a coat of paint, cracks here and there, and somewhat run down.

I looked at myself, top floor a bit thin on roof coverings, saggy on the mid floors, unsteady foundations, and also a bit run down.

I thought that, over 30 years, myself and the hotel had pretty much kept pace.  Each good for another 20 years or so with a bit of TLC.

"Young" Scott,

I shall definitely have to get you on the squash court !!

If you stick with me & you may eventually look as good as Papaya.

James
PS: how does Penang compare to Bangkok or Kota Kinabalu re climate - better or worse ??

Ah well I've fooled you there.  You see, I make out that I'm this 50 something British woman - but in reality I am a 93 year old German bloke from Dusseldorf.  Prost!!  Hans
