Can Husband and Wife Appear Separately for Visa Stamping?
« on: May 09, 2010, 05:01:20 PM »
My wife and I have just received our Approval Letter. Due to scheduling problems, it would be more convenient for me to go first, and for her to follow 2-3 months later (naturally, both of us within the 6 month expiry period). Would this be possible? Or, would they require us both to be there the first time? (I've emailed to ask Cindy Lim at the Ministry of Tourism website but have not received an answer so far.) Does anyone know? Thanks.

hi, Azka,

Welcome to the site. Congratulations on the approval.

Off-hand I don't know the answer. I'll  try and check out myself,  meanwhile perhaps some other member has direct experience of this and will post.

Meantime if you get a reply from Cindy Lim, please post.

Thank you for the welcome! :) Will certainly post what I hear from Cindy Lim. Great site, BTW. Hope you will bear with me if I post stuff in the wrong place as I seek answers to the many questions I have!

hi, Azka,

I emailed Yvonne at Joy-Stay as she is often in direct contact with the Immigration Department. She has replied as follows :

Quote
I write to notify you that according to Encik Hadi of the MM2H Immigration Unit, the Main applicant has to complete the K.I.V. conditions as per Conditional Approval Letter and obtain his/her MM2H visa first and inform the immigration officers that their dependants would visit immigration on their own to obtain theirs at later dates.

This is great! I wish there was a way to confirm this, though, since I'd hate to travel to Malaysia, only to be asked to present my wife, as per approval letter: "kindly ensure that you, the applicants MUST BE PRESENT at Immigration Unit - ..." (bold and caps in original). Maybe Cindy Lim will respond.

What, BTW, are "the K.I.V. conditions" mentioned in Yvonne's reply to you?

You've really been most helpful Scott. I am now encouraged to seek some confirmation and go by myself first. Inadequate as it seems, Thank You!

hi, Azka,

KIV = Keep in View. Yvonne tells me that Immigration likes to use this term for the items they are yet to review before they would issue the visa.

The MM2H website (www.mm2h.gov.my) is clear about the Security Bond.

Quote
Each participant and dependent must submit the Security Bond.

* The Security Bond per person can be in the form of cash, bank draft or money order, made payable to the "KETUA PENGARAH IMIGRESEN MALAYSIA ". The Security Bond must be stamped (RM 10.00) by The Stamping Office at the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia. The Bond can be withdrawn if the participant/dependent decides to exit from the MM2H Programme.

I'd go this route. 1 form and 1 bond for each of you.

Hi Scott

I now have an official reply from Cindy Lim, which I am posting as you asked:

Quote
... your wife may get her MM2H endorsement separately from you.  However, as the main applicant, you should be endorsed on the programme before your wife so that she can be issued the MM2H social visit pass as your dependant.  The main applicant has to have his MM2H endorsement within six months of the Conditional Approval Letter.

This is consistent with what Yvonne wrote to you. So, it seems that not only can I go ahead of my wife, but the 6-month limit does not apply to my wife! :)
