How good are CCTV cameras for security?
« on: February 05, 2010, 10:35:50 PM »
Read this and it just confirms what my friend from UK was telling us the other day. He's in security business in the UK and said he noticed many places including condos and houses have installed CCTV cameras which to his surprise some are not even in the correct locations/positions and if there is no one to monitor the cctv cameras the system is just as good as not having one ..... some thing to ponder about this false seccurity notion of just having them installed  :o

Similarly, my car was badly damaged couple years ago in the indoor parking lot of my previous condo. When I reported to management, they couldn't see the incident in the recorded cctv images...reason: the row of parking lots was not within the angle of the cctv camera  ::)

Motorcycle stolen at The Spring Condominium

I am one of the owners of the “The Spring Condominium”. I lost my motorcycle inside the compound of the condominium (at the motorcycle parking space). My motorcycle was lost between 16/12/2009, 6.30p.m to 17/12/2009, 8.30a.m.

Immediately, the same day, I made a complaint to the management and requesting to view the CCTV. I was disappointed that the IJM management staff could not operate / replay the CCTV.

I was being told that they have to send someone from KL office to operate it. To my much disappointment, I was being informed by the management that the CCTV hard disk had scratch and not in operation. I went to the IJM Penang Office to complain and all of the managers were on holiday.

I had written a complaint letter to the General Manager of the Jelutong Development Sdn. Bhd. I seek IJM to settle the issue with me within ten (10) days.

At first, the management told me that they might be able do something for me as a goodwill. After a few weeks of waiting, on 4/2/2010, I called the management staff to find how the situation. He told me that the management and committee had met and decided not to compensate because they said that they had not done anything wrong.

The management staff also said that even the CCTV could be perfectly, they still cannot do anything about it. Thus my question is, what is the point for having intalling all this CCTV system where the security don't even monitor it ?

I believe that the maintenance fee that I have been paying monthly cover the operation of the CCTV and other facilities. Should all these facilities are not in working condition ? Are we therefore not liable to pay such maintenance fee?

If the management feels that they have done everything right then how about the CCTV in not working order ???

I sincerely hope that apartment-penang.com management can post this message to the front page of your site thus it can alert all the IJM properties' buyer regarding their unprofessional act. Thank You!

Regards,

Sandy

As expected from IJM: unprofessional, irresponsible and unethical.

As far as i am concern, as long the event took place within the vicinity of the common area and under the surveillance of the management team. Where a certain fee is paid for such services, then it is IJM's responsibility!
Get a lawyer Sandy and trust me they will compensate in court for due negligence and faulty services.

I feel disgusted, this kind of irresponsible and ignorant act should be condemned. The event took place within the vicinity of security surveilance and the management should be taken up the full responsibility, not to mention the mal-functioned camera, a pure negligence. This is not the way a reputable developer like IJM is treating its client who have queued day and night for their dream unit.

    Sandy,

What do they actually means when they told you "I was being informed by the management that the CCTV hard disk had scratch and not in operation."

    X-FILE ???

Shouldn't all the equipments and people (Security Guards) must be 24 hours fully in operational for safety purposes?

    Lame excuses by IJM Management

I think many other apartment/ condos resident also face the same problem. Each month of paying the maintainance fee, but what are we actually paying for?

Typical attitude of bad developers. Only aim in life is money, money, money. Customer satisfaction is not in their vocabulary. Will probably end up nowhere with these guys. Not insured for theft? Feel sorry for you.

Don't play play, IJM was accorded the ISO 9001:2000 in year 2002 & have a corporate philosophy of "Excellence Through Quality" which is the driving force behind their Group's continuing success.

GP, it is just a piece of paper and it doesn't mean anything. Action speaks louder than words.

Are you working for them? If you are please do tell them that they are losing consumer's confidence. They will probably lose their credibility with time and maybe even that piece of ISO 9001:2000 certification

    Cheers.
