Japanese eateries in Penang

Any recommendations?  I know there are a growing number of Japanese MM2Hers out there - any nice restaurants you have found in Penang?

There are many in the area around Island Plaza. I find the new one in Island Paza to be excellent. It is called Edoichi.

Cheers steveso, will have to try that one.  I just googled and found a review on Lingzie's Tummy Treats  :) http://www.lingzie.com/2010/01/27/edo-ichi-japanese-cuisine-island-plaza-tanjung-tokong/  Just love all these Penang foodblogs.

I am very slightly clueless with Japanese food but think it's about time to learn.  The Kimuchi Ramen looks interesting and the Nameko Fried Rice looks good.  I must say I'm surprised about the prices - the Ramen RM 18 and the rice RM 8 - seems very reasonable for a pukka restaurant - that's more like foodcourt prices isn't it?

No lah, foodcourt is way cheaper. ;)
But the food looks nice, another one to try (and the list isn't getting shorter, sigh)

Try the Alaskan Salmon Roll. It is excellent.

There is a Japanese satll in the food court out the front of the Naza Hotel.
It is fanatstic and the people who run it typify what I love about Penang.
Try the Rainbow Maki or if you want a real treat the smoked eel.
Enjoy  :) :)

I saw the picture of that and couldn't work out what those little orange balls on top were.  Is that fish roe or what?

Yes. It is tobiko. It is an ingredient in a lot of sushi and other rolls.
